About BostonBargains
BostonBargains started the way a lot of good ideas do — with a group of friends complaining over coffee.
We're a bunch of locals who were tired of using a certain giant California-based classifieds website (we won't name names) to find things right here in Boston. It worked, sort of, but it never really felt like ours. It didn't understand the city. It didn't know the difference between something a quick ride down the Red Line away and something out past Route 128.
And that last part mattered to us more than you might think. Most of us get around town on public transportation. When you don't have a car, "nearby" isn't about miles — it's about which stop a listing is close to and whether it's on a line you actually ride. We wanted a marketplace that understood that. So we built one. Being able to filter listings by MBTA line wasn't a nice-to-have for us — it was the whole point.
From there it grew. We added free posting for everyone, longer-lasting listings for members, saved-search alerts, secure member-to-member chat, and privacy-protecting relay emails so you never have to hand out your personal inbox. But the heart of it is still the same: a local marketplace, built by people who actually live here, for the people who actually live here.
Thanks for being part of it. We'll see you around town — probably on the T.
